A lovingly spirited, detailed, and soulful rendition of Bob Dylan’s ‘Blonde on Blonde’ from some of the north-west’s most well respected musicians.
“’Blonde on Blonde’ is almost certainly my favourite album of all time”, writes singer Andy Raven. “Every time I hear the record it always sounds different. And I know so many other people who love it too. The richness of the arrangements, the sound of mid-60s Nashville, the weary-velvety timbre of Dylan’s voice, the intensity of emotional experience, the way it’s mixed: I just love it.
The idea of doing it ourselves, from start to finish, just started out as an idea for having fun, really. Matt Canty and I didn’t initially envision putting on a gig; we just liked the idea of having a go at the album in the rehearsal room as a kind of challenge. But once we’d put the word out (on Whatsapp) and realised how many other great musicians were keen on the idea, we felt we just had to share it with an audience.
We’re really looking forward to this gig in Settle. It is going to be our second performance, and I think the music will work really well in the space. LAB stands for Lancaster Album Band, by the way, and there’s a vague idea that we might choose different albums to perform every year. But who knows, for now we’re still obsessed with ‘Blonde on Blonde’”
