Overground Underground: Films from Kendal Mountain Festival

  • Settle Victoria Hall 24 Kirkgate Settle, England, BD24 9DZ United Kingdom (map)

Five fabulous films, showcasing the very best of the Kendal Mountain Film Festival. This year‘s films are;

The Frozen Road dir. Ben Page

“Shot and edited whilst cycling around the world, this short film charts my winter journey into the Canadian Arctic as I completed my bike ride up the American continent. The Frozen Road is an honest reflection on my solo trip; of the wonder, terror and frustration I experienced when riding through the unforgiving emptiness of one of the world's 'last great wildernesses'.“

Wild and Wonderful dir. Mike Call

The first deep-water-solo climbing competition ever held on real stone in America. The Catch? Deep water soloing on Summersville lake is illegal and these bold solos over warm lake water have never been attempted.

Watch a community of volunteers, athletes, sponsors, spectators, representatives of the US Army Corps of Engineers, rescue divers, medical personnel, and a whole film production team converge in a once in a lifetime event, where the impossible becomes possible for just one day.

Weightless dir. Jean-Baptiste Chandelier

Take to the skies with Jean-Baptiste Chandelier as he brings us along for the ride on a breathtaking journey from the French Alps to the coast of South Africa, from the Azores islands to the beaches of Brasil, in his latest video short. Experience the thrills of paragliding first hand with a birds-eye view of some incredible locations. Feel the wind in your face and see the world beneath your feet, gliding between church steeples, skimming along coastlines and looping the loop over volcanic craters in this spectacular illustration of precision flying.

The Invincibles dir. Ada Patterson

The film explores the story of Tom Bermingham, Mairead Ni Mhaoileóin and Tom McCarthy, three open water swimmers who are dedicated to the water all year round – rail, hail or shine.

Pillars dir. Richard Berry

A social commentary on shared human experiences around the world.

"Take a journey from the chaotic streets of Kathmandu, brimming with ancient temples and shrines, to a slower pace of life in Jyamrung, a village nestled in the foothills of the Himalaya. Then onward to the highest mountains in the world to gaze upon the highest of them all, Mount Everest."

Overground Underground is the festival of the Ingleborough Dales, and runs 27 May- 11 September 2018. Their full programme can be seen at ogug.co.uk.
