Our previous concerts this season have involved a performance of Handel’s Messiah just before Christmas in Settle Parish Church and then in April we sang Hiawatha’s Wedding Feast by Samuel Coleridge Taylor and Feel the Spirit, a collection of traditional spirituals arranged by John Rutter, in Giggleswick School Chapel.
Both concerts attracted large audiences and favourable reviews and we hope our Summer concert will do the same.
The programme on July 9th will again demonstrate the choir’s versatility as the music is completely different from the previous concerts in that this time we will be offering a selection of songs from the shows together with some popular operatic arias, again under the baton of our Musical Director Darren Everhart and accompanied by Brian Heaton.
The final content of the programme has yet to be decided but will include medleys from Les Miserables and West Side Story together with songs from Into the Woods by Stephen Sondheim, Wicked by Stephen Schwartz and Mamma Mia by Catherine Johnson based on the Abba songs written by Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus.
The operatic section of the concert will include the Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves from Verdi’s opera Nabucco, the stirring Grand March from Aida, also by Verdi, and the tranquil Humming Chorus from Madam Butterfly by Puccini.
