Patience, the highly popular comic-opera by Gilbert and Sullivan, is brought to Settle on Saturday 10 September by the accomplished West Yorkshire Savoyards company making a welcome return visit. Directed by former D’Oyly Carte star, Roberta Morrell, this is a must-see evening of beautiful music and wicked satire.
One of the most topical and humorous of the G&S operas, Patience pokes gentle fun at the timeless cult of celebrity, the aesthetic movement of the 1870s and '80s and the empty, self-indulgent artists of the day. You'll meet languid poets, drooping, sighing maidens, and the manly dragoons who make for a hilarious evening's entertainment. This fully staged production with orchestra promises to be a treat for all.
