Skipinnish

  • Settle Victoria Hall 24 Kirkgate Settle, England, BD24 9DZ United Kingdom (map)

Skipinnish are without a doubt one of Scotland’s most exciting exports. A long-standing favourite on the Scottish folk scene, the release of their 2017 album - The Seventh Wave - catapulted them to staggering new heights and brought the widespread recognition their loyal following had long since known they deserved. With hit after hit of self penned songs and a strong mix of powerful bagpipe, fiddle and accordion led tune sets, they encompass the very best of traditional and contemporary Scottish music. The boundless energy of their live shows coupled with their wonderfully evocative songwriting continues to captivate audiences around the world.

Drummer Rory wasn’t even born back in 1999 when Skipinnish first hit the heaving pubs and steamy village halls of the West Coast of Scotland. Since then, the band have traversed the length and breadth of the country, their inescapable talent and enigmatic performances elevating them from small town ceilidh band to bona fide folk music superstars. Following a stellar 2017 – which culminated in the band being named Live Act of the Year for the second time at the Trad Music Awards – the Skipinnish juggernaut continued to gather pace through 2018 selling out gigs all over the country, including a ground breaking show at the Usher Hall and a magnificent return to the famous Barrowland Ballroom in Glasgow. As they head into their 20th year with 8 million Spotify streams, headline festival appearances across the country and millions of YouTube hits under their collective belts, their global appeal is undeniable and shows no sign of diminishing.

The Glasgow welcome that Skipinnish received on Friday night was beyond exuberant...The Seventh Wave referred to in the band’s album title is said to have the power to heal and rejuvenate – as Skipinnish ride the crest of that wave and bring their music to ever wider audiences...their music itself seems to bear the same legendary power.’
— Barrowlands Live Review 2017
For a traditional music dance band, Skipinnish pull expertly and dexterously on your heart strings when they want to, while for a lyrical instrumental band, they can get you up and dancing like a beast possessed with an ease that seems almost unearthly.
