Scandimoot Concert and Dance

  • Settle Victoria Hall 24 Kirkgate Settle, England, BD24 9DZ United Kingdom (map)

Come to an exciting concert of traditional Scandinavian music and dance with wonderfully talented Nordic artists.

Brought to you by Scandimoot as part of our weekend event in the Dales   www.scandimoot.org.uk
Stay on after the concert for more music and dance with the course participants.

Olof Kennemark & Pers Alexander Olsson: two young fiddlers with a firm anchoring in the Swedish tradition.

There is an unbroken repertoire of music stretching back to the mid-1800s in the Pers family and Olof also inherited that tradition from his own father.

Ami & Håkon Dregelid: Ami is from Sweden and is an important role-model in the Scandinavian folk dance scene, both as a dancer and teacher. Håkon is a dancer from Voss in Norway.

They both emphasise the interaction between the music and the dancers.  “Dancing is something we do together as a couple and together with the music, so there are three of us working together”

Fredrik Lundberg is a fiddle player from Värmland who has been active within the Swedish traditional music scene since the late 1980s, always focused on dance music and he and Ami have run courses together for most of that time.

Fredrik says - “To devote oneself to the interplay between musician and dancer is fantastic. I reach a level of playing, of music, which I am never able to when I just play by myself. It is a privilege"

John-Francis Goodacre is a fiddle player and folk music archivist who has immersed himself in the music traditions of Scandinavia.

His playing focuses on the driving dance tunes from the border counties of Sweden and Norway, taking inspiration from both living tradition-bearers and archive material.

Andy Parr trained as a dancer in Sweden and is also a talented musician.

His teaching is both thorough and inspiring and he is currently involved in running Swedish dance workshops all over England.

Kersti Ståbi is a singer and storyteller who grew up on the family farm in the north of Sweden and, from an early age, sang with her father and other musicians on stage there.

She has performed with Cirque du Soleil, was a founder of Fabula Storytelling in Stockholm and has worked with solo musicians and orchestras.
