Frigg
Renowned the world over, Frigg have been conquering the folk and world music scenes for over 20 years. Featuring the crème de la crème of a generation of Finnish folk musicians, the group fuses its deep Nordic roots with western folk and bluegrass flavours to form Frigg’s unmistakable, unique sound – playfully coined ‘Nordgrass’.

Langcliffe Singers
Langcliffe Singers return to Victoria Hall to present a fun-filled evening of ballads, songs and snatches from the masters of operetta, Gilbert and Sullivan.

Tashi Lhunpo Monks: From The Roof of the World
Tibetan monks present chant, mantras, music and dance opening a magical window on to a world of reincarnation and Buddhist mysticism. Dramatic swirling masked dances and Tantric musical instruments evoke the atmosphere of sacred Tibet, offering an experience of an ancient culture and an insight into this endangered world.

Mad Dog Mcrea
Mad Dog Mcrea blend a unique mixture of folk rock, pop, gypsy jazz, bluegrass and ‘shake your ass’ music. From self-penned songs of adventure, drinking, love and life, to traditional songs of gypsies, fairies, legless pirates and black flies – Mad Dog never fail to capture their audience with their infectious songs.

Aly Bain, Ale Möller and Bruce Molsky
Sharing their Celtic, Nordic and Appalachian cultures: Aly Bain, Scotland’s supreme traditional style fiddler; Swedish multi-instrumentalist Ale Möller, and American old time fiddler, singer, guitarist and banjo player Bruce Molsky form a dynamic diversity.

Gasper Nali
Gasper Nali is a roots one-man-band from the small town of Nkhata Bay on the shores of Lake Malawi. He plays a one-string home-made 3-metre long Babatoni bass guitar with a stick and an empty beer bottle, and together with a cow skin kick drum and catchy melodies, he creates the most amazing and danceable original Afro Beats possible!

Klezmerish
Meet Klezmer-ish, four incredibly outward-looking musicians who met as members of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. From rip-roaring klezmer and dynamic tango to their self-penned gypsy jazz, Klezmer-ish bring a trademark twist and exceptional virtuosity to whatever genre takes their fancy.

The Firelight Trio
Firelight Trio play European folk music that is evocative, inventive, and endlessly exciting. Memories of Empire: Ukraine and Russia
When Ukraine declared itself independent in 1991 it sealed the final collapse of the Soviet Union. Photographer Tim Smith’s images, taken both sides of this pivotal moment, illustrate his talk exploring the stories of Ukraine and British Ukrainians.

N'Famady Kouyate
N’famady Kouyate is a young master musician from Guinea, West Africa now based in Wales. Malinké in origin and born into a griot/djeli family. The griot are an African hereditary tradition where djeli have responsibility for preserving traditional Mandingue culture through the sharing of ancient rhythms, songs, and stories.

Black Umfolosi
Black Umfolosi performances are inspired by the traditional song and dance of their native southern Africa, with a beauty and enthusiasm that is unrivalled.

Rajasthan Heritage Brass Band
Some of the most treasured musical forms and traditions, that hold epochal historic and artistic value to them have evolved from diverse regions of northern Indian state Rajasthan. The Rajasthan Heritage Brass Band is an effusive embodiment of this grand landscape. Kanda Bongo Man POSTPONED, Date tbc
The man who single-handedly gave the world the infectious Kwasa Kwasa dance; Kanda Bongo Man is one of the most well known stars of world music, and is one of the first pioneers of Soukous music. His music has always been driven by optimism and happiness; it contains melodies that curl through the patterns like vines on a trellis.

De Temps Antan- CANCELLED
Combining tradition with contemporary flair, this ‘power-trad’ trio showcase the very best that Quebecois music has to offer.
