Rajasthan Heritage Brass Band

  • Miss Victoria's Refreshment Gardens @ Settle Victoria Hall 24 Kirkgate Settle, England, BD24 9DZ United Kingdom (map)

Some of the most treasured musical forms and traditions, that hold epochal historic and artistic value to them have evolved from diverse regions of northern Indian state Rajasthan. Infused with robust cultural zest and encompassing the spirited sand of the barren Thar Desert, the royal land of Rajasthan is a glittering jewel gleaming with thriving age old art forms and traditions.

Apart from its majestic palaces, iconic forts and robust heritage, the magic of Rajasthan cannot be felt in a holistic manner without experiencing its heart driven folk music. The traditional music of this noble land incorporates numerous flavours of its own; for ages, it has been preserved and popularized by families and communities, who have dedicated their lives to this art. The credit for the global appeal of Rajasthani music also goes to the Rajput kings, who encouraged folk music in their royal courts during their reign. The reason for their patronage on folk music was not only that it served as a means of entertainment but also as it kept life in motion and joy for people residing amidst desert, facing rugged living circumstances everyday.

The significance of music in Rajasthani culture is so vivid that each prayer has a song to it, expressed in a particular style. One such enchanting and highly celebrated style of singing is the ‘Panihari’ in which the women of the community sing altogether to appease the God of rain to shower his blessings on the thirsty land of sand. Akin to that every seasonal change, every celebration in Rajasthan is expressed through a folk, whether it is the arrival of the monsoon or coming of the harvest season, this 5000-year old music culture has its soulful presence in all segments of Rajasthani lives.

The Rajasthan Heritage Brass Band is an effusive embodiment of this grand landscape. It’s a full of life celebration of Rajasthani art, it’s vibrant music, colourful dancing styles and enthralling culture.

The superbly talented musicians of ‘RAJASTHAN HERITAGE BRASS BAND’ present intriguing reflections of the sandy land through their performances. They play a wide repertoire of Indian traditional music that involves heart-melting fusion of distinguished Gypsy sound, North Indian classical melodies, popular Bollywood songs, Rajasthani folk styles, spiritual Qawwali, Bhangra beats and English numbers. All this delight packed together is showcased by its attractively dressed artists, who with their utmost delicacy reveal the full spectrum of evocative and joyous musical performances.
